Mr Sekiguchi, president and owner of Sekiguchi Co., Ltd, created the very first Monchhichi by combining two of his existing inventions: the Kuta Kuta monkey plush with a vinyl face, and the GeGe thumb-sucking fashion doll. Monchhichi was born as twins, a girl and a boy.
A friend since 1974
Monchhichi was created in 1974 on the idea that such a doll, as a gift, could inspire friendship, love and happiness to the younger ones but also people of all ages. This philosophy has been guiding Sekiguchi and the product development since then.
